Your Thoughts Become Your Life
Mar 22, 2025
What Are You Thinking?
Lately, I've been reflecting a great deal on the nature of my thoughts—how they shape my life and profoundly influence me.
I've also been thinking about God—what He thinks about, what He says about our thoughts, and what He calls us to focus our minds on.
Philippians 4:8 encourages us to “fix our thoughts on whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable….”
As I meditate on this verse, God is showing me that, as a Christian, I am to mirror God's character.
Philippians 4:8 is a reflection of that.
He is TRUE, NOBLE, RIGHT, PURE, LOVELY, ADMIRABLE, EXCELLENT, AND PRAISEWORTHY.
And if this is His nature, then this is how He thinks. So, this is what I should think as well. The problem is... that I don't.
Day after day, I wake up with thoughts that don't reflect these characteristics. And that can feel discouraging! BUT GOD is so kind. He would never ask me to do something that He hasn't shown me how to do.
You see, He wrote us a love letter. And this letter has all the tools we need for this life to conform us to His image.
Romans 12:2 says, "Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect."
Transformation happens when we renew our minds. Thoughts become things. They become how we experience the world. They are the ONLY THING that we can ever really change. When we renew our minds and take each thought captive, we DECIDE to see life in a certain way. He has created in us the power to think for ourselves.
Philippians 4:8 acts as a filter that we can put our thoughts through.
When we decide to focus on what is
TRUE, NOBLE, RIGHT, PURE, LOVELY, ADMIRABLE, EXCELLENT, AND PRAISEWORTHY
When we focus on HIM...
We receive peace from the Spirit.
I love how Tara-Leigh Cobble explains this peace in The Bible Recap. She says, "The peace that passes all understanding will act as a bodyguard of the door and heart of our minds."
This scripture isn't just a suggestion—it's a blueprint for living a life of joy and peace. What we focus on shapes the way we feel and, ultimately, how we experience the world. Our thoughts have the power to build us up or tear us down, and when we choose to meditate on the good, the true, and the beautiful, we begin to see God’s handiwork in every area of our lives.
So, I want to ask you: What are you thinking about today? Are your thoughts aligning with God's truth, or are they keeping you stuck in worry and doubt? You have the ability to renew your mind and transform your life by choosing where you place your focus.
P.S. Don't forget, the mind is a battlefield—but with God, victory is already yours! 🌿
